Lavender Menace is thrilled to welcome our newest client, Dr. Jonathan P. Higgins, also known as DoctorJonPaul (they/them). A celebrated educator, professor, national speaker, journalist, media critic, and thought leader, they examine the intersections of identity, gender, and race in entertainment. Their work has been recognized by organizations such as the National Black Justice Coalition, Business Equality Magazine, GLAAD, Native Sons, and Out Magazine, and has appeared across major outlets including Essence, Ebony, Complex, MTV News, BET, and Entertainment Weekly. As a digital storyteller, podcast host, and newly published author of Black. Fat. Femme: Revealing the Power of Visibly Queer Voices (in Media) and Learning to Love Yourself, DoctorJonPaul uses their platform to illuminate social issues and champion liberation for Black, fat, queer, and non-binary communities.
Being deeply invested in growing social change within organizations around the world, Lavender Menace has followed and admired DoctorJonPaul’s work for years. Dr Jonathan P. Higgins, aka DoctorJonPaul, is an award-winning educator, professor, national speaker, freelance journalist, thought leader, and media critic who examines the intersections of identity, gender, and race in entertainment and beyond. Named one of National Black Justice Coalition’s Inaugural Emerging Leaders to Watch and Business Equality Magazine’s “Top 40 LGBTQ People Under 40,” their work has been featured on sites like Essence, Ebony, Complex, MTV NEWS, Out Magazine, BET, & Entertainment Weekly. They have consulted with multiple brands on inclusion projects, including United Artists, Amazon Prime, Fox, the NFL, Apple, Disney, Instagram, Buzzfeed, G.L.A.A.D., and Ulta Beauty.
DoctorJonPaul is the creator, Executive Producer, and host of the Webby-honored, Shorty & Signal Award-winning Black Fat Femme Podcast via the Outspoken Network on iHeartMedia. They write and lecture regularly, discussing what liberation means for Black, fat, queer, and non-binary individuals and what folks can do to better show up for those who are often left at the margins in media and education.
In their recently published book, Black. Fat. Femme: Revealing the Power of Visibly Queer Voices (in Media) and Learning to Love Yourself (Wiley Global, 2025), DoctorJonPaul does just that: delivers an honest and extraordinary new take on media that can be used to help individuals better understand their lived experience and identity.
